Artist housing coming to BAM district

A $500 million mixed-use development geared towards artists and low- to moderate-income families is going up in the Brooklyn Academy of Music cultural district, between Lafayette Avenue, Fulton Street, Rockwell Place and Ashland Place. The complex will include a 40,000-square-foot performance space and 10 rehearsal studios for the new home of DanceSpace, galleries and retail space. A 30-story, 185-unit apartment building is also being planned, with half of all units to be reserved for affordable housing.
