Brooklyn too expensive for nonprofits

Some nonprofits are moving to Lower Manhattan instead of Brooklyn because commercial rents there are too high. At the end of the first quarter of 2008, Downtown Brooklyn had only 1.27 million square feet of available office space, compared to Lower Manhattan’s 5.36 million square feet, according to Newmark Knight Frank. Some Lower Manhattan landlords are also offering free build-outs and other perks for offices to move in because of the down market.
