Harlem struggles in Wall Street wake

Harlem businesses and organizations are worried that the neighborhood, which has been a beneficiary of Contributions From Wall Street firms, will suffer now that Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, and Washington Mutual, among others, no longer exist to provide aid. Bear Stearns provided funding for the $85 million retail and office complex Harlem Center. The future of CityLAX, a nonprofit organization financed in part by financial sector employees, that supports lacrosse teams in public schools in Harlem and elsewhere, is in doubt.
