Mortgages plummet in Brooklyn minority neighborhoods

Minority
neighborhoods in Brooklyn, like Brownsville and East New York, saw the number of mortgages
issued plummet by more than half in 2007, compared to 2006. The number
of
mortgages fell 60 percent in Brownsville, 58
percent in Bushwick, 57 percent in East New York and 45 percent in East
Flatbush. Mortgages were up, however, 48 percent in Brooklyn Heights
and Fort Greene,
and 11 percent in Williamsburg
and Greenpoint.
