Construction fatalities up in 2008

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration
accelerated its review process this year due to an increase in construction
fatalities. As of November, 26 construction fatalities had been reported in New
York City this year, compared to 22 for all of 2007 and 29 for all of 2006. Thirteen of the 26 deaths
were falls from elevations. In Manhattan alone, nine people were killed in crane collapses this year.
