Brooklyn precinct could become rentals

The owners of the former Brooklyn Heights precinct on Poplar Street, between Henry and Hicks streets, are planning to convert the former police station into rental apartments by gutting the three-story building and constructing a two-story addition to the roof. Architect Andrew Fredman is designing the conversion, which would create 30 rental apartments, a ground-floor medical facility and a one-story garage next door to the building. The proposal to convert the building was approved by Community Board 2’s land use committee, and the next step will be a vote by the board’s executive committee and a Landmarks Preservation Commission hearing.
