Ratner faces looming deadlines in AY plan

Atlantic Yards has become a race against the clock for developer Bruce Ratner, according to a New York Times feature covering the controversy. His October 14 hearing before the New York Court of Appeals could derail his plan, and a December 31 financing deadline is no small feat, either. “We are racing to the finish line,” Ratner said. “Our sense is that while this project was important five years ago, it has become even more important given the economy and the job situation in the city.” Atlantic Yards has divided the Prospect Heights community, garnering support from union groups that believe the project could create construction opportunities and angering community members who have demanded the release of final renderings before the project is approved.
