After one year without landlord, Bed-Stuy residents lose water

Tenants at an apartment building at 274 Malcolm X Boulevard in Bedford-Stuyvesant say they have gone without water for two months. City officials say they were forced to shut off water in the eight-unit building in July after they discovered a pipe leak. The officials also say that they won’t be able to restore the water supply until the building’s owner fixes the damage. But the apartment’s landlord reportedly died last year and tenants claim that their building hasn’t been tended to since. Tenants said that they’ve resorted to filling up water jugs from a nearby fire hydrant, according to the New York Daily News. A protest outside the building, led by City Council candidate Mark Winston Griffith, is planned for Monday.
