Contractor takes fatal plunge in Brooklyn

An elevator contractor fell six stories to his death down an elevator shaft in Bedford-Stuyvesant this morning, the Fire Department of New York told the New York Times. The man, who has not been identified, was working at 988 Myrtle Avenue, which houses the Brooklyn Community Correctional Center, a halfway house for released prisoners. The worker fell around 9:30 a.m., FDNY authorities said, and was still breathing when emergency crews arrived, but later died at the scene. [NYT]
