HBO chief lists UES townhouse for $16.5M

7,000-square-foot home, once owned by PBA Realty Advisors co-founder, has a solarium

HBO co-president Richard Plepler has put his newly renovated limestone mansion at 151 East 72nd Street on the market for $16.5 million, according to data from Streeteasy.com.

The five-story 18.5-foot-wide, 19th century property is comprised of 7,000 square feet, including four master bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms and a wood paneled library, according to the listing by Sloane Square broker Jaar-Mel Sloane. It also features quirky additions, like a solarium, a 1,500-bottle wine cellar and an entrance through the original gates of the Paramount Theater.

Plepler purchased the townhouse in 2002 for just $8.19 million, according to public records filed with the city. He bought it from famed philanthropists John and Laura Pomerantz, who spend a lot of time on charitable works. John is former chairman and CEO of clothing company Leslie Fay, and Laura is currently a principal and founding partner of PBS Realty Advisors.

A call to Plepler’s home went unanswered and a person from his office at HBO said the company “does not comment on the personal lives of its executives.”

Sloane was not immediately available for comment.
