Construction manager for original WTC dies

James Endler, an engineer who managed some of the biggest construction projects in the country in the last 50 years, died of neuroendocrine cancer Saturday in Manhattan at the age of 82, the New York Times reported.

After serving in the Corps of Engineers for the U.S. Army in the Korean War, Endler joined Tishman Realty and Construction and began workin on the new Madison Square Garden on top of Penn Station. Later he oversaw construction of the original World Trade Center for Tishman before retiring as president and COO of the firm in 1983.

Outside of New York, Endler managed construction projects at Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center, Disneyland Paris, the Canary Wharf project in London and the Renaissance Center in Detroit. [NYT]
