After two years on the market, “Indiana Jones” actor Harrison Ford may well have begun thinking of his Chelsea penthouse more as a “Temple of Doom” than as a mansion in the sky. But the hunt for a buyer is finally over.

A New England-based buyer has closed on the purchase of the actor’s much publicized penthouse at the Chelsea Prairie at 206 West 17th Street, according to public records filed with the city today. The 5,664-square-foot pad, which had been asking $16 million, traded for $1 million short of the hefty asking price, records show. The deal for the property closed December 11.

Ford was represented in the deal by Deborah Grubman and David Dubin of the Corcoran Group. Grubman was not immediately available for comment.

Ford purchased the four-bedroom apartment for $5.3 million in 2002, it was previously reported, and he completed a renovation of the property. The apartment features keyed elevator access, heated floors and a fireplace, according to the listing. It also has a gym, a laundry room and a private roof terrace.

It was not immediately clear who represented the buyer, who lists his or her address as 85 Sparks Street in Cambridge, Mass.
