One of at least two men believed to have kidnapped and killed Williamsburg landlord Menachem Stark was staking him out for two weeks prior to last Thursday’s incident.

The man, who remains unidentified, was seen in the Brooklyn neighborhood as early as Dec. 19. Stark’s widow told police she saw a Dodge Caravan minivan matching the description the car that nabbed him parking outside their house roughly one week before the abduction. A third person may have been in the van and served as the driver, law enforcement sources said.

The description of the killers “led us to believe that the suspects are not American. They could be from out of the country, possibly Europe,” a source told the New York Post.

Stark owed large sums of money ranging from thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars, and one of his creditors may have run out of patience, reports said. Stark’s partner Israel Perlmutter is also a possible suspect in the case, according to the Post, but Perlmutter denied any allegations about his role in the killing. [NYP]Mark Maurer
