Brookland to raze church for Bushwick apartment project
Developer Brookland Capital has opted not to add four stories to Holy Tabernacle Church of Deliverance in Bushwick, but rather build a new structure altogether.
The firm, led by Boaz Gilad, acquired the Lutheran church at 1255 Bushwick Avenue from St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church for $1.95 million in June.
The seven-story apartment complex near Weirfield Street will hold 32 units – either rentals or condominiums – across nearly 22,000 square feet of residential space, according to forms filed last week with the city, Brownstoner reported. There will also be 16 parking spaces below ground.
Architecture firm Issac & Stern had begun designing a conversion of the two-story church, as reported in September, before Brookland opted to raze the structure and build fresh. [Brownstoner] — Mark Maurer
