He’s only a sophomore in college, but R. Donahue Peebles III is beginning to  make a mark on his father’s real estate empire, Peebles Corporation.

Don Peebles, who founded the Miami-based company and is now one of the biggest African-American developer in the US, entered the New York City market in 2013 as a stakeholder in multiple projects to build on government-owned land.

The young Peebles is the one who inspired his father to pursue redeveloping the embattled Long Island Community Hospital in downtown Brooklyn, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“He’s been a good influence on me,” said Peebles Sr. to the Journal. At his son’s prodding, Peebles Sr. put in a bid for LICH that calls for 35 percent of the apartments to be set aside for affordable housing. [WSJ]Angela Hunt
