Dr. Jonathan Zizmor’s subway ads proclaim that “you can look great today and take your time to pay!!” Looks like the dermatologist may have a similar attitude towards his rent payments.
Zizmor is accused of failing to pay rent at his Midtown medical offices, according to a summons filed with the supreme court of New York Friday.
Jack Resnick & Sons, Zizmor’s landlord at 133 East 58th Street, alleges that the dermatologist owes $56,613.66 in rent for its medical offices, according to the court documents. Zizmor, who retired earlier this month, couldn’t be immediately reached for comment. His office appears to be permanently closed.
Zizmor received citywide fame for his colorful advertisements, which have plastered New York subway cars since the early 1980s. Numerous outlets have written about him over the years, including the New York Times and The New Yorker. The dermatologist reportedly once turned down a cameo appearance on Tina Fey’s TV show “30 Rock.”
On Jan.4, Curbed reported that Zizmor’s mansion at 5021 Iselin Avenue in the Bronx, which he had been trying to sell for years, was finally in contract for $3.075 million – far less than its first asking price of $4.3 million
On the same day, the New York Daily News reported that Zizmor had retired. “The Zizmors love to travel and have many social interests, hobbies, and friends,” Zizmor’s realtor Sandra Waibel told the paper. “At the end of the day, they are just like the rest of us.”
