Slate Property Group to demolish piece of “the Collective”

An early 20th Century tenement building in Murray Hill will soon be razed. Slate Property Group has filed permits to fully demolish the building at 203 East 33rd Street.

The five-story walk-up is one of seven adjacent tenement buildings between Second and Third Avenues that the development group purchased in 2013, known as “the Collective,” 6sqft reported. So far, it is unclear what Slate has planned for the site, but it has the ability to transfer development of the adjacent properties in order to construct a mid-size building.

The Collective comprises 146 rental apartments and eight retail spaces. The buildings saw a $10 million renovation under Slate and were reconfigured into smaller units with high-end appliances.

The buildings are linked by an underground tunnel that contain shared amenities such as a screening room and a game room. [6sqft] –Christopher Cameron
