Two national retailers’ plans for new stores in Manhattan have recently been abandoned. Home Depot, which was to set up shop in a 125,000-square-foot Hudson Square space, decided against the location after determining the $40-per-square-foot lease was too pricey for the amount of space being offered. Apple, which planned a 30,000-square-foot store on 34th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, decided the location’s current retail mix was too middlebrow to be compatible with the computer company’s image. more [Slatin via Curbed]
