City housing plan ‘milestone’

The mayor said yesterday that his 10-year New Housing Marketplace plan to build or preserve 165,000 units of low- to moderate-cost housing had achieved a “milestone,” having reached one-third of the goal at 55,000 units. At the same time, the city is hemorrhaging affordable housing as landlords take buildings out of the Mitchell-Lama program and prices continue to rise in the city’s real estate market, driving out low- to middle-income residents. more [NYT]
