Mitchell-Lama hemorrhage continues

Despite the blitzkrieg of media attention paid to the pending sale of the massive Brooklyn Mitchell-Lama property Starrett City — in which politicians and activists decried the city’s ever-increasing loss of affordable housing — in December and January, 1,042 apartments were taken out of the Mitchell-Lama program. All of these units are now subject to unregulated rents. “I think the state needs to recognize this is a housing emergency,” said Ellen Davidson, a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society who focuses on legal reform for Mitchell-Lama. more [City Limits]
