Manhattan’s last stable to close

April 24, 2007 12:00AM

The Upper West Side’s Claremont Riding Academy will shutter after this weekend, marking the closure of Manhattan’s only riding stable and the oldest continuously operated stable in the country. The facility, which is located at 89th street, is a national landmark. “It’s like a death in the family. This is a unique community, and it is not easily or ever replaceable,” said Claremont Riding Academy’s Judith Martin. “Most major cities that have riding in the parks no longer do, so we are a long, long holdout, but it’s just sad.” more [NY1]
