Housing Authority selling parts of projects

The City Housing Authority will sell unused or underused land inside several housing projects to developers in a move expected to raise around $50 million for the authority, which is facing a $225 million budget shortfall. The authority is selling the parcels inside complexes in areas that include Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen and East New York. Developers will use the land to create housing. Although most of the housing that will result will be affordable to moderate- and middle-income New Yorkers, some of the units will be market rate. All together, the parcels being sold can support around 5,000 to 6,000 new apartments. more [NYT]
