The Washington Square Park Task Force issued a report recently in what could be a last-ditch effort to get the Parks Department to alter plans for the redesign of Washington Square Park. The report called for the entire park to be wheelchair accessible, as well as for reducing the height of the proposed fence around the park and increasing the size of the central plaza fountain. “If the Parks Department’s response is not acceptable, we’ll look at all our options, including withholding funding from the project,” Councilmember Alan Gerson, who appointed the task force, said. more [Villager]
