The Jersey City Fire Department now says yesterday’s four-alarm fire at 77 Hudson, a waterfront rental tower under construction, is suspicious. The nearby Merrill Lynch offices have re-opened and about 60 families that were evacuated have returned. As The Real Deal reported yesterday, city officials have ordered that the top floors of the building be removed because concrete shifted during the fire. The city granted permission for work to continue 24 hours a day to remove the damaged floors. An Equity Residential spokesman said the tower’s completion, slated for mid-2009, is not expected to be delayed.
