Comptrollers to pressure lenders

New York City comptroller William Thompson Jr. and state comptroller Thomas DiNapoli say they will push mortgage companies to help homeowners avoid foreclosure. The comptrollers will team up with advocacy group Acorn to call on lenders to modify the loans of borrowers in default, and convert adjustable loans to fixed-rate loans. They plan to speak with Countrywide Financial, Chase Home Finance and CitiMortgage.
