Funeral held for murdered broker

A funeral service held today for murdered celebrity broker Linda Stein drew hundreds of friends and family and sent mourners streaming onto the sidewalk outside the Upper West Side’s Riverside Memorial Chapel.

Stein, 62, was murdered in her penthouse apartment at 965 Fifth Avenue on Tuesday.

About 800 attended the funeral, the chapel said. Eulogies given by Stein’s daughters, Mandy and Samantha, and her cousin and son-in-law described her as a caring mother and grandmother.

Stein had brokered deals for such celebrities as Sting, Billy Joel, Michael Douglas and Steven Spielberg.

“Both in business and outside of it, Linda treated you like a star, no matter who you were,” said Rabbi Hirsch, who led the service.

“When I first met her one on one, she made me feel like I had known her for years,” son-in-law Roger Wells said. “She had that quality about her.”

Police say there are no murder suspects. Newspaper reports said today that an ex-boyfriend and a former assistant have been questioned and that police were seeking marijuana dealers.

The crime was not mentioned at the service, other than at the end of daughter Samantha Stein-Wells’ eulogy.

“I had to see her one last time today, to see what this bastard had done to her,” Stein-Wells said. “Justice will be served. We won’t stop until justice is served.”

A statement on Stein’s Prudential Douglas Elliman web page called her “a bright light who quickly rose to fame once she entered the real estate business” and described her as a broker who was “feisty, talented, charming, and relentless.”
