The city’s Economic Development Corp. plans to build about 5,000 rental apartments in Long Island City’s Hunters Point, setting aside 60 percent of the units for middle-income families, or households with around $60,000 to $145,000 annual income for a family of four. Community groups are calling for low-income housing at the developments. Most developments on city-owned land have reserved 20 percent of their units for families earning up to $57,000 per year.
