Willets Point braces for legal battle

The city plans to transform a 60-acre swath of land in Willets Point into a mixed-use community, but several business owners say they will take legal action if the soon-to-be-published Environmental Impact Statement overlooks the 1,300 industrial jobs that could be lost. The Willets Point Industry and Realty Association says the new jobs created by the redevelopment would not compensate for lost jobs. WPIRA has enlisted attorney Michael Gerrard, who represented CableVision in thwarting Bloomberg’s attempt to build a stadium at the West Side Rail Yards.
