NYT Building design draws praise

The Guardian says the New York Times’ new building, which officially opened last week, is “the first truly impressive office tower raised in Manhattan in more than 40 years.” The British newspaper contrasts the understated, subtle architecture of the Times building with the more showy designs of the Woolworth Building, the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. The Times building’s architect, Renzo Piano, said, “We wanted to create a building that made New York and the Times somehow one and the same thing.”
