State judge stops work at Union Sq

A state judge ordered on Monday that renovations of a pavilion in Union Square Park, which could include a new restaurant, be put on hold for one week. The restraining order comes as community groups sue the city for failure to receive approval from the state Legislature for the $21 million project, as is required when using public parkland for private uses. Opponents of the project have requested the name of an anonymous donor of $7 million, claiming that if it is a restaurateur it could be considered a conflict of interest.
