The author of the book “Hip Hollywood Homes,” Sue Hostetler, has paid $3.5 million for a commercial property in a residential section of Alphabet City, according to property records.

Hostetler, a contributor to Gotham Magazine, and her husband, Jonathan Diamond, bought a 2,200-square-foot property at 238 East 4th Street that is zoned for a maximum build-out of 7,600 square feet.

The one-story building, which had been the offices of a construction company, is squeezed between two pre-war, six-story apartment buildings in a district zoned for residential.

Hostetler
, who lives in Soho with her husband, is also style editor for Aspen Magazine and writes a column for a Dubai lifestyle magazine called Bespoke, according to her Web site.

She was traveling and not immediately available for comment, a publicist said.
