New York was ranked the fifth most
environmentally friendly city by Sustainlane.com, a Web site about green living. New York
earned a top spot on the list of America’s 50 largest cities because its per capita greenhouse gas emissions are a third of
those in the rest of the country due to smaller homes and a wider use of mass
transit. The group also applauded Mayor Bloomberg’s PlaNYC, which aims to cut
greenhouse gases by 30 percent by 2030.
