Lofts in Manhattan 30 years ago were not luxury apartments with huge windows, they were wide-open raw spaces that were large and cheap. These types of spaces can’t be found in Manhattan anymore, but still exist in some outer-borough neighborhoods like Bushwick. One can also still find illegal lofts throughout the city in buildings not zoned for residential use.
