Brooklyn committee approves building beyond zoning

November 30, 2008 10:56PM

Community Board 1′s land-use committee approved developer Dean Palin’s proposal to build a 40-story residential building in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, 10 stories more than the area’s current zoning allows for. Palin is requesting a zoning change because he cannot build within 50 feet of a sewage pipe that runs through the property, at 155 West Street, between India and Huron streets, or on a 25-foot section of wetlands. The land-use committee voted seven to zero in favor of the project, which also includes three six-story buildings for a total of 620 housing units, including the 40-story skyscraper.
