Architecture moves with the market

Starchitecture projects around the city are struggling amid the
recession, facing construction delays, scaling back of plans and even
foreclosure. For comparison, the New York Times’ Moment blog looks back at how the
construction of some city buildings was affected by the Great
Depression. Construction at The International Magazine Building On Eighth Avenue at 57th Street, for example,
stopped in 1928. (Work eventually resumed in 2003.) Larkin Tower on 42nd
Street and Eighth Avenue was proposed in 1926, but the plans were abandoned by 1930.
