Tenants’ confidential records found on Brooklyn street

Dozens of confidential city files containing records belonging to public housing tenants were found on the street over the weekend. The Daily News found the files, containing birth dates, Social Security numbers, and information about leases, along Atlantic Avenue near Pennsylvania Avenue in East New York. One tenant whose information was on the street lives in Linden Houses; other tenants’ residences were not reported. City Housing Authority officials are investigating the situation. An authority spokeswoman said the agency shreds confidential information if it’s going to dispose of it. In a similar incident, buyers linked to Citi Habitats had their personal information strewn along Columbus Avenue in January.
