Second Avenue subway delays hurting local businesses, survey says

The delay in construction of the Second Avenue subway is hurting the bottom lines of area businesses, according to a survey of 59 Upper East Side stores. Ninety-one percent of businesses near the construction said they’ve seen fewer sales since the subway project’s groundbreaking in 2007. According to Betsy Gotbaum, the city’s public advocate, one-third of the businesses expect to close before the subway is completed.
