Openings and closings: Baja Fresh opens, Corio closes

A new Italian restaurant, San Rocco, has opened in the Flatiron District at 37 West 24th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, according to a press release. Adham’s Halal food cart had vanished from the corner of Broadway and 40th Street, only to reemerge at Broadway and 35th Street. Sources have not yet confirmed whether this is the same cart, or a facility under the same name. Baja Fresh franchise owners said they have tentative plans to open a second Midtown location at Broadway and 41st Street by the middle of the month. Hat maker Selima has opened a pop-up shop in Henri Bendel at 712 Fifth Avenue on the corner of 56th Street. Cold weather clothier Mackage is opening a pop-up shop on Washington Street between Little West 12th and Gansevoort streets. Bathing Ape is also opening a pop-up shop at 286 Lafayette Street between Prince and Houston streets. Schnitzel Express at 1410 Broadway Near 39th Street has officially opened. David Burke’s Upper East Side restaurant, Townhouse, has opened at 133 East 61st Street between Park and Lexington avenues, after completing interior renovations.
Celeb-friendly clothing line MoMo Falana is opening a shop in Soho at 237 Centre Street between Grand and Broome streets, according to a press release sent today.

To celebrate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s journey through his namesake river, a replica of a Dutch Colonial village will be installed at Bowling Green Park between Broadway and Whitehall Street. The exhibition will be open for visitors from Sept. 4 to Sept. 14 and will feature Dutch culinary delights.

A new sandwich shop is slated to open in the old Piccolo Cafe spot at 221 Columbia Street on the corner of Union Street in Cobble Hill. In Clinton Hill, a new fried food joint will reportedly call 901 Fulton Street between Clinton and Vanderbilt avenues its home after renovations are completed.

A restaurant and performance spot, Corio, at 337 West Broadway near Grand Street, has closed. Whistlin’ Dixie’s Texas Tavern at 714 11th Avenue on the corner of 51st Street reportedly closed over the weekend. Yaffa’s restaurant at 353 Greenwich Street on the corner of Harrison Street has closed. A public auction was spotted in its old space. Italian eatery La Grolla at 413 Amsterdam Avenue and 77th Street has shuttered.

In Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens, Bagels by the Park at 323 Smith Street on the corner of President Street has temporarily closed for renovations. Williamsburg’s Green Canteen at 106 North 6th Street between Berry Street and Wythe Avenue has closed its doors. TRD
