New York State Pavillion needs massive repairs, study finds

The iconic New York State Pavillion is critically unstable, a study has found. Cracks in its concrete columns, unraveling roof cables, and a deteriorating foundation threaten the future of the 1964 World’s Fair structure at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, and would cost up to $29 million to repair. The alternative, demolition, would cost an estimated $9.7 million. The city wants to conduct a second study on the Pavillion’s three adjacent observation towers before making a decision about their collective fate. [NYDN]
