Openings and closings: La Terrine opens, Pancho Gringo closes … and more

On the Upper West Side, La Terrine, a tableware and linens store, is opening at the corner of 73rd and Columbus Avenue. Upper East Side meat merchant Schatzie’s has opened a West Side outpost at the corner of 87th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. At the corner of 88th Street and Broadway, a steakhouse called (aged.) is opening up. A new Rita’s Italian Ice location is opening at 2486 Broadway between 92nd and 93rd streets, marking the chain’s third New York City location. Popular falafel chain Maoz has scheduled an opening at the corner of 111th Street and Broadway. Makeup giant Sephora has planned to open a location in the new Columbus Square retail center at 808 Columbus Avenue.

In Midtown, Cookbook author Dorie Greenspan is opening a pop-up shop, Cookie Bar, from Feb. 8 to Feb. 13, at The Hair Salon Mizu On Park Avenue between 59th and 60th streets. And Tom and Toon, an American-Thai fusion eatery, will be coming to 245 West 51st Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue.

After closing in December, Korean bar and restaurant Gama at 12 St. Mark’s Place in the East Village is reopening under new management.

On the Lower East Side, popular roving sweets vendor Dessert Truck has opened a brick and mortar spot at 6 Clinton Street on the corner of East Houston Street.

Brooklyn Flea mainstay Red Hook Lobster Pound may be looking to expand to new locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan, although it’s not yet clear which neighborhoods it’s eyeing. Prospect Heights is now home to Woodwork bar at 583 Vanderbilt Avenue.  The space previously occupied by Penny Licks bakery in Williamsburg will be occupied by a homemade prepared foods store called Radish come spring.

Amid these openings, there were a few closings. Harlem eatery Pancho Gringo, formerly Talay, has shuttered at 701 West 135th Street at
the corner of 12th Avenue.  Urban Cottage at 2519 Broadway on the corner of 94th Street on the Upper West Side has closed its doors. Koglin German Royal Hams, a 10-year mainstay in the Grand Central Terminal market place on the corner of Lexington Avenue and East 43rd Street, will close. In Carroll Gardens, Red’s Tapas Bar at 289 Columbia Street between Summit and Woodhull streets has closed.
