A rendering of the project
Four years after the Kroc Center, a community facility planned for Staten Island, was announced, the project is no closer to reality, according to the Staten Island Advance. The $78 million building was set to include a recreation center, senior housing and a performance center, but the economy took a toll on key investors and plans stalled. Now those close to the deal say they fear the 110,000-square-foot facility may be delayed indefinitely. Still, Evan Hickman, the general secretary for the Salvation Army of Greater New York, a key investor in the project, said he’s optimistic that the development will continue when the financial environment improves. “We will see what the economy is going to do,” Hickman said. “It’s a matter of when [we build], not if.” [SI Advance]
