Former Goldman exec takes on key role in city’s economic development

Robert Steel, the former Under Secretary for Domestic Finance at the U.S. Department of Treasury, has been named the new Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, according to the mayor’s office. Steel, a 28-year veteran of Goldman Sachs and former vice chairman with the firm, will be responsible for promoting job growth and economic development in the city. Mayor Michael Bloomberg noted in a statement today that Steel’s “diversity of experience” in both the public and private sectors was integral to his appointment. TRD
