Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s office said it sent cease-and-desist
letters to 31 mortgage-rescue companies today over alleged illegal and
deceptive practices, according to Crain’s. That’s in addition to the list of more than 180 companies that have already been warned.

Cuomo says his office has received numerous complaints from consumers,
who have been subject to misleading practices by mortgage companies,
including demanding fees up front, not providing written contracts and
false advertising. [Crain's]
