GM might open Manhattan showroom

General Motors is weighing a plan to ramp up its marketing efforts with a new Manhattan showroom that the company hopes would attract wealthy potential investors to the brand, Bloomberg News reported. New York City is a weak spot for GM: it’s market share here was 9.6 percent last quarter, compared with 18.7 nationwide. And a similar advertising ploy has been tried by Audi, whose Audi Forum on the corner of 47th Street and Park Avenue showcases its newest models and hosts events. But the bailed-out company could draw criticism for buying or renting a pricey piece of New York City real estate, and sources familiar with the discussions said either is a possibility. [Bloomberg]
