Silvercup Studios founders debut new market-rate LIC condo

The Industry at 21-45 44th Drive

The Industry, a new apartment building in Long Island City, Queens is helping to transform the area from an industrial neighborhood to a residential one, the New York Times reported. The 76-unit seven-story building at 21-45 44th Drive near 23rd Street was developed by Stuart and Alan Suna, brothers who founded Silvercup Studios, several production facilities where hundreds of TV shows, including “The Sopranos” and “30 Rock,” were filmed. The Industry is the Sunas’ first foray into market-rate development, though in the past two decades they have fixed up or built 1,700 affordable apartments in areas including Harlem, Williamsburg and East New York. Studios at the Industry start at 518 square feet and are priced from $390,000 and up, or about $750 a square foot. Two apartments have since gone into contract, said Stacy Spielman, a broker at Prudential Douglas Elliman, which is marketing the building. [NYT]
