Second Avenue Subway construction

A crowd of close to 50 business owners gathered yesterday to protest what they call the “deplorable” conditions which are destroying the commerce along the Second Avenue Subway construction path since work began there more than three years ago, as The Real Deal reported. The MTA has promised to make improvements, but nothing has happened so far. With one street light for the whole block, the area is attracting vagrants, Corey Lopez-Thomas told the Post. Lopez-Thomas, who works as a bartender on 91st Street, said his friend was robbed. The business owners want legislation to give Second Avenue financial help. Shopkeepers along the route say revenues have dropped as much as 70 percent. “If the action is not taken, we need to seriously consider going to court,” said lawyer Norman Siegel, who is representing the business owners.
