West Village’s Bacchus House sells for $20M

Rivendell House, a subsidiary of venture capital firm Founders Fund, has purchased the Bacchus House, a six-bedroom townhouse at 40 West 10th Street for $20 million, according to city records. Seller Enrico Cinzano, of the Cinzano wine company, had been trying for the last few years to sell the building, which was first listed with Brown Harris Stevens, Real Estate Weekly reported. The listing agent is now Michael Pellegrino of Sotheby’s International Realty, who declined to comment. Cinzano has owned the building for 16 years and put it on the market in 2008 for $18.75 million, according to the New York Times. The Beaux-Arts house, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, features a 40-foot landscaped atrium plus its own garage and curb cut, a rarity in the city that added about $1 million to the property, the Times said. Founders Fund — whose heads include Peter Thiel, Ken Howery and Luke Nosek, co-founders of Paypal, and Sean Parker, the founder of Napster and former president of Facebook — didn’t immediately return a request for comment, and it is unclear whether the property will be an investment or an actual home for the company.
