The owners of two Upper West Side single-room occupancy buildings that also serve as hotels filed suit yesterday to block a state law which would ban apartments rentals of less than 30 days, the Post reported. The Manhattan federal court filing says the state regulation will cause “significant economic harm” to the Dexter House at 345 West 86th Street and the Hotel Alexander at 308 West 94th Street. Both buildings offer short-term rentals to tourists and other visitors who can’t afford “traditional luxury hotels,” the suit says. The law was passed last summer and is set to go into effect May 1, amid complaints from hotel operators. [Post]
