Mayor praises fallen builders’ group head

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has spoken out on the death of Nicholas LaPorte, Jr., a former vice chairman of the New York City Civil Service Commission, praising LaPorte for his “love for government.” As The Real Deal first reported, LaPorte, who passed away two days ago at the age of 61 after a battle with cancer, was the executive director of the Associated Builders and Owners of Greater New York, a real estate trade organization. Bloomberg called LaPorte a “true New Yorker,” and noted that he had lived in four out of the five city boroughs — the Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Manhattan. TRD
