Related rents out High Line development site for pop-up summer watering hole

The Related Companies and Abington Properties are set to break ground on a new residential tower at 30th Street and 10th Avenue this fall, but until then, they’re lending the site to Friends of the High Line, which will transform it into a summer public gathering spot, “The Lot at 30th Street,” complete with a 350-seat bar by chef Tom Colicchio, collection of food trucks and a public art exhibition. According to the New York Times, the site, currently a vacant parking lot, sits at the foot of the northern entrance to the second section of the High Line, which opens next month. The development of the pop-up lot will cost around $200,000 and the space will be designed by the High Line’s own architects, James Corner Field Operations and Diller Scofidio & Renfro. The bar is to be called the Lot on Tap, while five food trucks — also picked out by Colicchio — will rotate. Vendors already slated to appear include the Red Hook Lobster Pound, ice cream sandwich-maker Coolhaus, the Taco Truck, Kelvin Natural Slush Company and Taim Mobile. Colicchio, who said he plans to offer “food that is sustainable, and local, and that goes well with beer and wine — and that isn’t terribly expensive,” expects between 1,200 and 2,000 visitors daily.
